Vault

From Fortnite Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

Vault (or vaulted) is the term used to refer weapons/items that were released and was later made unavailable to adjust the game's balance, being a limited-time item, weapon rotations, out of the meta or not being used by the players as much. Most of the vaulted items can still be found on Playground Mode. Vaulted weapons and items can return in an update or in future LTMs. The actual Vault is located under Loot Lake and is a bright room with a desk that holds vaulted weapons in glass panes, as shown in the Unvaulting event which is the nexus that the CUBE sent players too. When a weapon is unvaulted, it means the glass has broken, freeing the weapon and returning it to the regular world.

Shadow Stones[edit | edit source]

Shadow Stones are consumable items that were added to Battle Royale at the beginning of Season 6 in Update 6.00 and were found in corrupted areas of the map. Using Shadow Stones will transform the player into "Shadow Form" for 45 seconds. While in Shadow Form, the player is unable to use any weapons, becomes invisible to enemies when stationary, leaves behind a Shadow Trail while moving, gains increased movement speed, jump height, fall damage immunity and the Phase ability which can be activated by pressing the Primary Fire button.

The phase propels in the direction the player is facing and allows the character to pass through objects. The effect lasts for 45 seconds but can be exited early by holding down the ADS (Aim Down Sights) button. When Shadow Stones are used, runes from the Cube appear on screen.

Shadow Stones, along with their Corrupted Areas, were removed in 7.00. However, the Crater where the Stadium once was has several Shadow Stones alongside other consumables.

Category Battle Royale Items
History
Introduced Patch 7.30
Vaulted Patch 10.00

Gliders are a Rare item in Battle Royale that allow the player to redeploy their glider midair. The player's glider can only be deployed midair by pressing their designated jump key. In large team modes, players start with 50 Gliders already in their inventory, taking up one slot. These can be replaced with stacks of 10 gliders found as loot. In all other gamemodes, players only gained this functionality by obtaining the Gliders item from floor loot or other loot sources such as chests. A player can only have one stack of Gliders in their inventory at a time, picking up another stack of Gliders with a stack already in your inventory will replace it. After depleting all the item's uses, the item will disappear from the player's inventory.

Gliders were vaulted from regular game modes on Patch 10.00 to reduce mobility, They however will still remain in big team modes such as Team Rumble, or in Creative.

Availability[edit | edit source]

The Gliders item has a chance to appear among other utility items and consumables per loot sources in the following circumstances[2]

The Gliders item has a chance to appear among all utility items and consumables in the following circumstances:

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The functionality of the Gliders item was originally implemented as a test feature in all gamemodes with infinite uses.
  • After mixed feedback from the community, the Glider Redeploy functionality was removed, only to be later reinstated as a Glider Redeploy item as of Patch 7.30.

Changes[edit | edit source]

Patch 10.00 (August 1, 2019)

Weapons + Items

  • Vaulted
    • Itemized Glider Redeploy (still available in large team modes)
    • Over time, we have added many mobility options, both itemized and map-based. We feel that Season X is better experienced with a reduction in mobility. As with all changes, we’ll keep a close eye on how this affects the player experience.

6.21 Patch Notes (November 1, 2018, November 1, 2018 )

Weapons + Items
  • Vaulted
  • Semi-Auto Sniper
  • Guided Missile
  • Dual Pistols
  • These items will remain available in Playground Mode.

6.00 Patch Notes (September 27, 2018 )
Weapons + Items
  • Vaulted Impulse Grenade, Suppressed Submachine Gun, Light Machine Gun, Bouncer, and Remote Explosives.

Infantry Rifle First Vault: The Common, Uncommon, and Rare variants did not fit well in any situation in Battle Royale

Final Vault: Unknown Reasoning. May be the fact that the weapon was barely used.

Suppressed Assault RIfle v5.4 Initial Patch of Season 9 Tactical Assault Rifle The Suppressed Assault Rifle was slightly underpowered by at least a Rare Assault Rifle. If mastered correctly, the accuracy would outclass most weapons. It was also vaulted, due to the amount of Suppressed weapons.
Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle v4.4 Initial Patch of Season 9 Tactical Assault Rifle The Thermal Scoped Rifle was the rarest weapon in the game with a 0.4% chance of dropping. It was only useful in Team Rumble, as it was more common to find them in Supply Drops. It was also vaulted to free up space.
Light Machine Gun v3.5.2 Initial Patch of Season 6 No Replacement The Light Machine Gun would utterly tear through structures and has no DMG falloff. It also didn't have that good accuracy (especially when trying to Spray and Pray) and would tear through any structure including metal walls.
Tactical Assault Rifle v9.01 v9.30 Content Update #1 (Rare) variant, v10.00 (Epic and Legendary) Suppressed Submachine Gun The Rare variant was first vaulted because it will help the class of Assault Rifles become more distributed, The remaining variants of the Tactical Assault Rifle was probably vaulted because there were many other Assault Rifle's in game or to do with the John Wick event being over. The Suppressed SMG could still be alternate to the Tactical AR.

Actual Reason from Epic Games when the Rare variant first got vaulted;

"With the unvaulting of the Suppressed Submachine Gun, we wanted to make sure loot distribution in this class of item was well distributed."

Guided Missile v3.4 v6.21 and 7.30 (Playground and Creative) Quad Launcher The Guided Missile was vaulted the first time because it was too overpowered. The second time it was vaulted because the weapon was rare to find in game, damages are worse than the Rocket Launcher and it was barely used.

It was also removed from Creative and Playground to enhance the performance and FPS.

Crossbow v2.4.2 Initial Patch of Season 4 Fiend Hunter and Cupid's Crossbow Although it is a Suppressed weapon, it was extremely rare and less powerful than even the Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle or Suppressed Sniper Rifle.

Chiller Grenade v7.30 Initial Patch of Season 8 Nothing It was vaulted due for the theme of Season 8 and it was really annoying.
Bottle Rockets 7.30 Content Update v8.01 Nothing They were most likely vaulted because they were extremely useless in combat. As the range and damage and aim of it were very poor
Port-a-Fortress v5.41 7.20 Content Update Nothing This was vaulted due to not being used often, it made people not build, and it was pretty annoying overall.
Port-a-Fort v3.5 Initial Patch of Season 7 Port-a-Fortress Wasn't severely annoying, but it gave some people an advantage

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • At the start of Season 6, most vaulted weapons are usually available on Playgrounds if a weapon is vaulted.
    • This might match the description of the Vault because if it means they’re not gone forever, that means they can still appear in playgrounds.
      • however, despite being said in Season 5, those vaulted weapons in that season never appeared in playgrounds.
  • The original Submachine Gun has either been completely reworked, or has been completely removed from the game files, making it the only weapon in the entire game to be either remade entirely, or to be removed. If the original SMG was reworked, it is now known as the Machine Pistol[5], with a Common, Uncommon, and Rare variation.
    • Furthermore, the Buried Treasure has been removed from the game files completely.
