The Vault Season X.png

Vault (or vaulted) is the term used to refer weapons/items that were released and was later made unavailable to adjust the game's balance, being a limited-time item, weapon rotations, out of the meta or not being used by the players as much. Until Patch 11.0, most of the vaulted items could still be found on Playground Mode. Vaulted weapons and items can return in an update or in future LTMs. The previous Vault was located under Loot Lake and was a bright room with a desk that holds vaulted weapons in glass panes, as shown in the Unvaulting event which is the nexus that the CUBE sent players too. When a weapon is unvaulted, it means the glass has broken, freeing the weapon and returning it to the regular world. The new vault may be located behind the unbreakable door at the south of Retail Row.

Shadow Stones

Shadow Stones are consumable items that were added to Battle Royale at the beginning of Season 6 in Update 6.00 and were found in corrupted areas of the map. Using Shadow Stones will transform the player into "Shadow Form" for 45 seconds. While in Shadow Form, the player is unable to use any weapons, becomes invisible to enemies when stationary, leaves behind a Shadow Trail while moving, gains increased movement speed, jump height, fall damage immunity and the Phase ability which can be activated by pressing the Primary Fire button.

The phase propels in the direction the player is facing and allows the character to pass through objects. The effect lasts for 45 seconds but can be exited early by holding down the ADS (Aim Down Sights) button. When Shadow Stones are used, runes from the Cube appear on screen.

Shadow Stones, along with their Corrupted Areas, were removed in 7.00. However, the Shadow Stones were reintroduced to the game as Glitched Consumables, only at the Crater where the Stadium once was, has several Shadow Stones alongside other consumables.

Due to an issue, Epic disabled Shadow Stones from Glitched Consumables

Additional Info on Vaulted Items

Weapon Added Vaulted Weapon Replacement Reason Being
Burst Assault Rifle v1.6 (BR Launch) v7.10 Content Update (Common, Uncommon, and Rare)

v7.30 (Epic and Legendary)

Infantry Rifle First Vault: The Common, Uncommon, and Rare variants did not fit well in any situation in Battle Royale

Final Vault: Unknown Reasoning. May be the fact that the weapon was barely used.

Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle v4.4 Initial Patch of Season 9 Tactical Assault Rifle The Thermal Scoped Rifle was the rarest weapon in the game with a 0.4% chance of dropping. It was only useful in Team Rumble, as it was more common to find them in Supply Drops. It was also vaulted to free up space.
Light Machine Gun v3.5.2 Initial Patch of Season 6 No Replacement The Light Machine Gun would utterly tear through structures and has no DMG falloff. It also didn't have that good accuracy (especially when trying to Spray and Pray) and would tear through any structure including metal walls.
Tactical Assault Rifle v9.01 v9.30 Content Update #1 (Rare) variant, v10.00 (Epic and Legendary) Suppressed Submachine Gun The Rare variant was first vaulted because it will help the class of Assault Rifles become more distributed, The remaining variants of the Tactical Assault Rifle was probably vaulted because there were many other Assault Rifle's in game or to do with the John Wick event being over. The Suppressed SMG could still be alternate to the Tactical AR.

Actual Reason from Epic Games when the Rare variant first got vaulted;

"With the unvaulting of the Suppressed Submachine Gun, we wanted to make sure loot distribution in this class of item was well distributed."

Submachine Gun (TEC 9 Variant)

Nicknamed the MP

Patch 1.6 (BR Launch) v2.5 Submachine Gun (MP5 Variant) The Machine Pistol was rotated out for the Tactical SMG's increase in fire rate and magazine size
Burst SMG v9.10 v10.30 Tactical SMG It was vaulted to bring back the Tactical SMG.
Compact SMG v5.10 v9.01 Tactical Assault Rifle and Drum Gun Vaulted to reduce high-fire rate weapons and in favor of the New Tactical Assault Rifle and Unvaulting of Drum Gun.
Submachine Gun (new) v5.0 Content Update v7.30 Suppressed Submachine Gun The fire-rate of the weapon was too high and it made other high-fire rate weapons useless to pick-up, It has now been replaced with the Silenced SMG.
Scoped Revolver v7.20 Initial Patch of Season 9 Revolver It was vaulted because users using a controller had a hard time with them, and to free up space.
Dual Pistols v4.5 v6.21 and v9.30 Nothing First Vault: To make room for new weapons or unvaulting

Final Vault: Not used a lot.

Suppressed Sniper Rifle v7.10 Content Update #3 v9.40 Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle The Suppressed Sniper Rifle was rotated out to bring back the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle.
Zapotron v1.6.3 v1.6.4 Nothing Did not fit the meta and was too overpowered that the only clip was a headshot that caused 150 damage and not at the player.
Heavy Shotgun v3.3.1 v7.30 Nothing It was vaulted to free up space, and to lower the amount of shotguns in the game.
Epic and Legendary Pump Shotgun v6.31 Initial Patch of Season 9 Combat Shotgun It counted for over 26% of the eliminations and the higher two rarities are extremely powerful.
Quad Launcher v6.02 v7.20 Content Update Nothing It was vaulted due to it being really overpowered
Guided Missile v3.4 v6.21 and 7.30 (Playground and Creative) Quad Launcher The Guided Missile was vaulted the first time because it was too overpowered. The second time it was vaulted because the weapon was rare to find in game, damages are worse than the Rocket Launcher and it was barely used.

It was also removed from Creative and Playground to enhance the performance and FPS.

Crossbow v2.4.2 Initial Patch of Season 4 Fiend Hunter and Cupid's Crossbow Although it is a Suppressed weapon, it was extremely rare and less powerful than even the Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle or Suppressed Sniper Rifle.

Storm Scout Sniper Rifle v9.41 Content Update v10.20 Automatic Sniper Rifle It was probably vaulted because of the recent addition of the Automatic Sniper Rifle, or it was unfair in competitive game modes as players can plan if they want to build to the upcoming zone by looking at the map the sniper provides.

Trivia

  • At the start of Season 6, most vaulted weapons are usually available on Playgrounds if a weapon is vaulted.
    • This might match the description of the Vault because if it means they’re not gone forever, that means they can still appear in playgrounds.
      • However, despite being said in Season 5, those vaulted weapons in that season never appeared in playgrounds.
    • Unfortunately, as of Patch 11.0, all vaulted weapons and items have been removed from Playground Mode except for Vending Machines.
  • The original Submachine Gun has either been completely reworked or has been completely removed from the game files, making it the only weapon in the entire game to be either remade entirely or to be removed. If the original SMG was reworked, it is now known as the Machine Pistol[5], with a Common, Uncommon, and Rare variation.
