The Vault Season X

Vault (or vaulted) is the term used to refer to weapons and items that were released and were later made unavailable to adjust the game's balance due to being overpowered, underused, being a limited-time item, to bring back a vaulted weapon, out of the meta, or having lots of glitches. Until Patch 11.0, most of the vaulted items could still be found in Playground. Vaulted weapons and items can return in an update or in future LTMs. The only known in-game version of the Vault was located under Loot Lake and was located in the In-Between, a bright room with a desk that holds vaulted weapons in large rectangular pillars, as shown in the Unvaulting. When the Drum Gun was still vaulted, it was stuck inside one of the pillars. When the pillar shattered, the weapon was sent back into the regular world, available to be found in chests, floor loot, and Vending Machines.

Sometimes a weapon won't be fully vaulted, but a certain rarity of it will be. Ex: Epic and Legendary Pistol, Uncommon and Rare Rocket Launcher, Common and Uncommon Bolt Action Sniper Rifle, Epic Rocket Launcher or have changed rarities, like the Pump Shotgun, Tactical Shotgun, Suppressed Pistol, Dual Pistols, Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle, Scoped Assault Rifle, and Heavy Assault Rifle.

Overview of All Weapons and Their Vaults[]

As Fortnite progresses, Epic decided to take some items out either to refresh the game or change the meta. This is a list of every weapon, item, vehicle, and trap that existed.


Please consider helping out and contributing to this list!


NOTE: This list will include weapons that are NOT vaulted. As such, this list will provide assumptions/theories as to why the weapon was not vaulted.

The Chapter 1 Burst Assault Rifle was not too great at eliminating enemies unless a player had a high-tiered version of it. The lower-end versions were the first to be removed because they did not perform great in the current meta. Followed by the weak aim, the random bullet spread, and speed, this weapon was not at its highest peak.


Later, the higher-end versions were also removed later. This was a bit shocking since the FAMAS was considered as a practical weapon, but t may just be due to the chances of finding one.


The Chapter 2 Burst Assault Rifle was greatly improved and the Mythic Ocean's Burst Assault Rifle was vaulted because Chapter 2 Season 4 brought new Mythic items that were related to the Marvel theme.


All versions were yet again removed on the initial patch of Chapter 2 Season 5. This was quite confusing since this weapon was improved greatly and many players used this. It may possibly have something to do with this weapon having some advantages that the Assault Rifle did NOT have such as increased ADS zoom and compacted accuracy.

The Tactical Shotgun was removed for the first time completely in Chapter 2 Season 4 because it was HEAVILY nerfed during the season prior. The headshot damage was drastically changed as well as its range and damage. It was at the point where it could not perform well against the Pump Shotgun.

The Common Suppressed SMG was vaulted first because of the different rarity adjustments being made.


Later in Season 6, the other two versions were removed because they were considered to be overpowered in terms of DPS.


They were removed again because of the Burst SMG's debut, but shortly returned after.


It was finally vaulted in 11.00, but this was most likely due to having a simplified lootpool.

The Submachine Gun was removed because of its low damage output, despite the weapon being buffed to higher damage yet again.


Twice this weapon reappeared as the Machine Pistol, both of which were in LTMs ONLY. When Solid Gold was in the playlist, many people saw the Common Machine Pistol being in there. It didn't last too long and was replaced by the Compact SMG shortly after.


Later, it appeared in Unvaulted with the Uncommon and Rare versions included. This sort of made sense since this was a nod to the old SMG. However, it got removed hours later.

Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle v4.4 Initial Patch of Season 9 The Thermal Scoped Rifle was the rarest weapon in the game with a 0.4% chance of dropping. It was only useful in Team Rumble, as it was more common to find them in Supply Drops. It was also vaulted to free up space.
Tactical Assault Rifle v9.01 v9.30 Content Update #1 (Rare) variant, v10.00 (Epic and Legendary) The Rare variant was first vaulted because it will help the class of Assault Rifles become more distributed, The remaining variants of the Tactical Assault Rifle was probably vaulted because there were many other Assault Rifle's in game or to do with the John Wick event being over. The Suppressed SMG could still be alternate to the Tactical AR.

Actual Reason from Epic Games when the Rare variant first got vaulted;

"With the unvaulting of the Suppressed Submachine Gun, we wanted to make sure loot distribution in this class of item was well distributed."

Patch 1.6 (BR Launch) v2.5 The Machine Pistol was rotated out for the Tactical SMG's increase in fire rate and magazine size.
Burst SMG v9.10 v10.30 It was vaulted to bring back the Tactical SMG, And it was not used a lot.
Compact SMG v5.10 v9.01 and v13.20 1st time: Vaulted to reduce high-fire rate weapons and in favor of the New Tactical Assault Rifle and Unvaulting of Drum Gun.

2nd time: It had the same stats of the Epic & Legendary SMG.

Scoped Revolver v7.20 Initial Patch of Season 9 It was vaulted because users using a controller had a hard time with them, and to free up space.
Dual Pistols v4.5 v6.21 and v9.30 First Vault: To make room for new weapons or unvaulting

Final Vault: Not used a lot.

Damage trap Patch 1.6 (BR Launch) Initial patch of season 2 chapter 2 Vaulted to nerf box fighting and was a bit overpowered. Also as with the new ways to teleport around the map e.g: porta-potties, Epic thought people would just place traps there and at other valuable places e.g the vault too get free kills.
Zapotron v1.6.3 v1.6.4 Did not fit the meta and was too overpowered that the only clip was a headshot that caused 150 damage and not at the player.
Heavy Shotgun v3.3.1 v7.30 It was vaulted to free up space, and to lower the amount of shotguns in the game.
Quad Launcher v6.02 v7.20 Content Update It was vaulted due to it being really overpowered
Guided Missile v3.4 v6.21 and 7.30 (Playground and Creative) The Guided Missile was vaulted the first time because it was too overpowered. The second time it was vaulted because the weapon was rare to find in game, damages are worse than the Rocket Launcher and it was barely used.

It was also removed from Creative and Playground to enhance the performance and FPS.

Crossbow v2.4.2 Initial Patch of Season 4 Although it is a Suppressed weapon, it was extremely rare and less powerful than even the Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle or Suppressed Sniper Rifle.
SMG v5.00 Content Update v7.30 content update, 12.00 and 14.00 In the patch 7.30, the SMG was vaulted. In patch 11.00, it was unvaulted with Epic and Legendary variants.

In the pach 12.00, the Epic and Legendary variant were vaulted for being overpowered. In the patch 14.00, was vaulted for the unvaulting of the Tactical SMG and for being weak after it's damage and firerate nerf.

Smoke Grenade v1.9.1 v3.5 Vaulted due to lack of use by players and trolling their own teamates.
Impulse Grenade v2.5.0 v6.0 (First) v9.30 CU #1 (Second) The Impulse was vaulted in Season 6 to reduce mobility and was vaulted in Season 9 to switch competitive meta's and the unvaulting of the Shockwave Grenade.
Bolt-action sniper rifle v3.3 Patch v7.30 and initial patch of season 2 of chapter 2 The heavy sniper rifle and the suppresed siniper rifle were unvaulted
Boom Box v7.10 Content Update #2 v7.30 Content Update Was an annoying item and can destroy a freshly built fort very quickly.
Clinger v3.6 Initial Patches of Season 7 and 9 It was vaulted to bring back grenades and freshen the category of explosive weaponry.
Port-a-Fortress v5.41 7.20 Content Update This was vaulted due to not being used often, it made people not build, and it was pretty annoying overall.
Grappler v5.40 v7.20 Content Update It was vaulted due to just gaining high ground on someone in a matter of seconds, due to that item being extremely overpowered.
Balloons v6.21 Initial Patch of Season 9 They were vaulted because not many people used them and it was a pretty hated item in Battle Royale.

Storm Flip v9.20 v10.20 It was probably not used a lot or it was unfair in late game circle's as players can camp in the Storm Flip healing up, while the other player is dying to the storm with no heals and Storm Flip.
Storm Scout Sniper Rifle v9.41 Content Update v10.20 It was probably vaulted because of the recent addition of the Automatic Sniper Rifle, or it was unfair in competitive game modes as players can plan if they want to build to the upcoming zone by looking at the map the sniper provides.
