Strategy[edit | edit source]

  • The Tactical Shotgun is a useful weapon to suppress the target at close ranges. Although it does rather low damage per shot compared to other shotguns, the fire rate is quick and can be used to damage the target quickly.
  • Even with a Common Tactical Shotgun, headshots can be near deadly for non-shielded players.
  • It serves well as a counter to the Combat Shotgun, if the user is close enough.
  • It is not really effective against the Pump Shotgun, as the Pump Shotgun does higher damage than the Tactical Shotgun, but if the pump user missed his or her shot, the tac user has a chance to eliminate the opponent. or if the Pump is Uncommon, they will be left on 10 HP. As it fires twice as fast, if they fire immediately, it will leave them on 29, 25 or 21 HP depending on the rarity, so you can switch to an SMG or fire again .66 seconds later and finish them off, or a headshot does a minimum of 159 damage.
  • Despite having the third-fastest fire rate of all shotguns (behind the Combat and Drum Shotguns), it has the longest reload time of all shotguns, for a full reload of 0-8 bullets.
  • With all shotguns, it is best to aim for the head and the neck, as this will insure that the shot does critical damage(159/168/177/186/195)
  • Despite the higher headshot multiplier than the Pump Shotgun (2.25x to 2.0x), the Legendary Tactical Shotgun cannot deal 200 damage on a complete headshot.

Changes[edit | edit source]

Patch 9.40 (July 17, 2019)

What's New?

  • Tactical Shotgun - Epic & Legendary
    • The Tac is back in an all new form. Drop in and try out the Epic and Legendary variants now!

Patch 5.0 (July 12, 2018)

  • Shotguns will now indicate how many pellets hit, visible within the reticle.
  • Adjusted shotgun spread patterns to be consistent with no random variation.
  • Heavy Shotgun now fires 10 pellets rather than 5.
    • Maximum damage for the Heavy Shotgun remains unchanged.
  • After firing a shotgun, another shotgun cannot be fired for a very short time.

Patch 9.00 (May 9, 2019)

  • The damage was increased from 67, 70, and 74 to 71, 75, and 79 depending on rarity.

Patch 4.5 (June 27, 2018)

  • Weapon damage to structures now correctly scales with rarity.
  • Shotgun damage to structures has been reduced by 50% for Pump Shotgun, and 25% for both Tactical Shotgun and Heavy Shotgun.

  • Headshot multiplier reduced from 2.5 to 2.0

Patch 4.3 (30 May, 2018)

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Tactical Shotgun appears to be a red version of the Save the World guns Enforcer and Longarm Enforcer.
  • In Patch 3.3, the rarities of all Tactical Shotguns were changed from Uncommon, Rare and Epic to Common, Uncommon and Rare, and in patch 9.40, Epic and Legendary variants were added.
  • Although the Heavy and Double Barrel Shotguns are semi-automatic, the Tactical Shotgun has the fastest firing rate, despite being a pump-action shotgun(until Patch 9.00)
  • The Tactical Shotgun has a small panel that seems to be playing Snake on its screen.
  • The side of the gun reads "Bossmerg 12", a play of the word Mossberg, a real-life weapons manufacturer. "12" means it is chambered for 12-gauge shotgun cartridges.
  • The Common, Uncommon, and Rare Tactical Shotgun appears to be a heavily modified Mossberg Maverick 88.
  • The Tactical Shotgun, the Combat Shotgun and the Drum Shotgun are the only Shotguns in Battle Royale that haven't been vaulted once.
  • Before the initial release of Battle Royale, The Tactical Shotgun was originally named "Semi-Auto Shotgun".
  • The Tactical Shotgun is the fifth weapon to be an all-rarity weapon.
    • This is also the first shotgun to be available in all five rarities at once(the Common Pump was vaulted over three seasons before the Epic and Legendary Pumps were added)
  • This is also the first time (Since the 3.3 patch) a rarity of a weapon returns, but unlike before it is in a new model and with new statistics.
  • The Epic and Legendary variants of the Tactical Shotgun appear to be a modified M1014. This is also the first Tac Shotgun to be able to near-oneshot people with full HP and shield bars, clocking in at a whopping 195 hitpoints of headshot damage at point-blank.
  • The Epic and Legendary variants of the Tactical Shotgun uses the same pullout weapon sound as the Suppressed Sniper Rifle. However in Season 10 it has its own pullout sound now.
  • The fact that the Common, Uncommon and Rare Tactical Shotguns are shown with duct tape on the slider that works its pump action perhaps suggests that these were quickly cobbled together as a temporary weapon.
  • This is the first shotgun (the second is the Drum Shotgun) in Fortnite that can be shot automatically – that is, by pressing the trigger button and holding it there. However, if one is observant at the recoil animation of the shotgun, it can be noticed the weapon doesn't fire automatically - it just gets pumped quickly and then fired while pressing the trigger. This perhaps is the reason for it being named the Semi-Automatic Shotgun right before B.R.'s release.
