The Submachine Gun (most commonly called both the SMG and P90 by the community) is an SMG in Battle Royale. It is available in Common, Uncommon, Rare , Epic and Legendary variants and has a headshot multiplier of 1.75x (formally 2.0x). The weapon deals 28, 29, 31, 33 and 35 damage to the head (formally 32, 34, 36, 38, 40 damage to the head). The Submachine Gun Common, Uncommon, Rare was introduced in the 5.0 content update, replacing the Tactical Submachine Gun. The Epic and Legendary variants were added in patch 11.00 Chapter 2 Season 1.

Even though the gun has a totally different name in the files, Epic considers the Epic & Legendary Submachine Gun as the Compact SMG.

Patch 7.30, the SMG got vaulted, making it only available exclusively in Creative, Playground and in Unvaulted LTM. It was vaulted for for the Suppressed SMG to return.

The SMG was unvaulted on the initial patch of Chapter 2 Season 1 with the additions of the Epic and Legendary variants (an adjusted Compact SMG). It replaced the Suppressed SMG and the Tactical SMG. The Epic and Legendary variants were then vaulted on the initial patch of Chapter 2 Season 2 due to being overpowered.

In Chapter 2, Season 3, the Epic & Legendary variants of the gun had several adjustments :

  • In Patch 13.00, the Epic and Legendary Submachine Guns were unvaulted. But sometime after Patch 13.00, a hotfix was deployed and they got nerfed to fit the Compact SMG stats that was also unvaulted. The Compact SMG and the Epic and Legendary SMG were the same weapon, just different name and texture, this was most likely a developer mistake. The fire rate was decreased from (12 > 10), the magazine size got increased from (30 > 40) and the reload time was increased (1.8 > 3.1, 1.7 > 3.0). Thus, it made the Uncommon and Rare variants of the Submachine Guns faster than the Epic and Legendary variants.
  • In Patch 13.20, Common to Rare Submachine Guns' firerate were nerfed from 12 to 10, matching the one used in the Epic and Legendary variants. All variants of this weapon were also nerfed by 1 damage, with the Epic and Legendary variants' magazine size decreased from 40 to 35. As a result, the weapon became weaker than the Machine Pistol. It's other version, the Compact SMG was vaulted and cannot be dropped from Henchmen anymore, which means Henchmen now drop Epic Submachine Guns.
  • In Patch 13.30, the Epic and Legendary Submachine Guns' reload time was decreased to 1.9/1.8, it was probably unintended.
    • The issue was resolved via a hotfix.

All variants were vaulted in Patch 14.0, replaced by the Suppressed Submachine Gun. The Submachine Gun remains available in Creative and remains unvaulted on iOS and macOS because they are stuck on Patch 13.40

All of the Submachine Gun's variant's returned from the Vault with Patch 15.00, replacing the Tactical Submachine Gun once again.

The Common variant was vaulted on Patch 16.0 due to the new crafting system.

Trivia[]

  • The Submachine Gun’s Texture used to be glitched from Patch 8.30 to Chapter 2, Season 1 as it was smaller and off center.
  • The old Epic and Legendary Submachine Gun was considered by some to be overpowered with its high damage per second and quick reload.
  • The Epic and Legendary Submachine Gun had exactly the same stats as a Compact SMG before its stats were changed in Patch 13.20. Unlike the Compact SMG, it can't be obtained from eliminating Henchmen, upgrading a Rare SMG or by sidegrading a Rapid Fire SMG, only in Supply Drops and sometimes chests.
  • This SMG did not coexist with the Tactical Submachine Gun outside of LTMs.
  • The Submachine Gun shared its resemblance with the Save the World weapon Specter.
  • Given the fact that this weapon and the Suppressed Submachine Gun are based off of variants of the H&K MP5, they share visual similarities.
  • The SMG is very good at close range and boasts a fire rate of 10 bullets per second. It looks like the Suppressed Submachine Gun, with a higher rate of fire, but shorter range. The SMG is like a way less powerful Tactical SMG. The SMG can even be used in final battles and you can rush with it too. It can easily tear through any walls opponents make.
    • This may be the reason why the weapon was vaulted.
  • The Submachine Gun is often referred to by the community as the Heckler und Koch MP5, due to popularity in many FPS games like CoD (Call of Duty), while the upper-tier Epic and Legendary variants are referred to as the Fabrique Nationale FN P90, due to the submachine gun's signature design. Curiously enough, the P90 Submachine Gun actually shares its model with the Compact SMG, which ironically enough is also a P90 with exactly the same stats.
  • One thought of why the weapon was vaulted was because the fire rate of the weapon was higher than any SMG in the game (even the Compact SMG) and the 2nd highest ever (tied with the Minigun and beaten only by the Tactical SMG). Because of this, the Compact SMG (unless the player found a Common SMG, then the Compact SMG would be better) was much less useful as the DPS for Uncommon and Rare SMGs beat all Compact SMGs.
    • The fact that the white MP5 SMG is weaker than the Compact aside, the fact that it had a higher DPS than the Compact P90 SMG led to people favouring the MP5 more, as it absolutely shredded through builds. It can be said that the gamers' opinions on the MP5 was pretty much the same as when the Desert Eagle Hand Cannon got the damage buff to structures, allowing the Desert Eagle to one-shot freshly placed wood, brick and metal builds.
  • Before Season 11, the Submachine Gun looks slightly darker than in Seasons 5 and 7, but now isn't as dark anymore.
  • This is the first SMG to be available in all 5 main rarities (Not including Mythic). The second is the Suppressed Submachine Gun, followed by the Rapid Fire SMG.
    • In seasons 1 and 3 of Chapter 2, this SMG is streamlined (which is using all rarities).
  • The Common and Uncommon SMG's reload time used to be quicker than the Rare, Epic and Legendary variants. This was most likely a bug.
  • The Legendary variant of the SMG is capable of eliminating an opponent in one less bullet than the lower tier versions.
  • The Epic and Legendary rarities of the regular SMG use the icon of the Compact SMG, and the Compact SMG had the icon changed to a new one matching the icons for items on Chapter 2. This appears to be an error.
  • When the damage per seconds of the Submachine Gun are compared to the Machine Pistol, it is weaker than the Machine Pistol. The Machine Pistol has a higher DPS than the Legendary Submachine Gun. The thing that makes the Machine Pistol weaker is the longer reload time.
