Submachine Gun (Battle Royale)

variants. The Submachine Gun was introduced in the 5.0 content update, replacing the Tactical Submachine Gun. 

All of the SMG's variants can be found from floor loot. The Uncommon - Rare variants can be found from chests. The Rare variant can be found from fishing.

The Submachine Gun was removed in Patch 7.30, making it therefore currently available exclusively in Creative, Playground and in Unvaulted LTM. It was vaulted for for the Suppressed SMG to return.

The SMG was unvaulted on the initial patch of Chapter 2 Season 1 with the additions of the Epic and Legendary variants, replacing the Suppressed SMG and the Tactical SMG. The Epic and Legendary variants were then vaulted on the initial patch of Chapter 2 Season 2 due to being overpowered.

In Patch 13.00, the Epic and Legendary Submachine Guns were unvaulted. But sometime after Patch 13.00, a hotfix was deployed and they got nerfed to fit the Compact SMG stats that was also unvaulted. The fire rate was decreased from (12 > 10), the magazine size got increased from (30 > 40) and the reload time was increased (2.1 > 3.1, 2.0 > 3.0). The Uncommon and Rare variants of the Submachine Guns are now faster than the Epic and Legendary variants.

The Epic and Legendary variants cannot be used to sidegrade for a Rapid Fire SMG, you need will the Compact SMG. As of the June 17, 2020 Hotfix, the Epic SMG cannot be upgraded to the Legendary variant. This is likely a bug or temporary change due to the Compact SMG and Rapid Fire SMG sidegrade bug currently in the game. SMG's cannot be sidegraded

The Henchmen have Compact SMG, but this could change if the Compact SMG is vaulted in 13.1 Patch Notes and replaced by the Epic and Legendary Submachine Gun, as likely intended. Unless it's the opposite and the Epic and Legendary Submachine Gun gets vaulted, since you can upgrade and sidegrade the Compact SMG and it can be upgraded from a Rare Submachine Gun. Plus Epic Games would need to change a lot of codes for the Compact SMG features to be added for the Epic and Legendary Submachine Gun. Vaulting the Submachine Gun would be faster and easier.

In Patch 13.20, Common to Rare Submachine Guns' firerate were nerfed from 12 to 10 and damage decreased by 1. The Epic and Legendary Submachine Guns were also nerfed by 1 damage and their magazine size decreased from 40 to 35.

Also in Patch 13.20 all variants of the Submachine Gun became weaker then the Og one, @ the Machine Pistol

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Submachine Gun’s Texture used to be glitched from Patch 8.30 to Chapter 2, Season 1 as it was smaller and off center.
  • The old Epic and Legendary Submachine Gun was considered by some to be overpowered with its high damage per second and quick reload.
  • The Epic and Legendary Submachine Gun has exactly the same stats as a Compact SMG. Unlike the Compact SMG, it can't be obtained from eliminating Henchmen, upgrading a Rare SMG or by sidegrading a Rapid Fire SMG, only in Supply Drops and sometimes chests.
  • This SMG did not coexist with the Tactical Submachine Gun outside of LTMs.
  • The Submachine Gun shared its resemblance with the Save the World weapon Specter.
  • Given the fact that this weapon and the Suppressed Submachine Gun are based off of variants of the H&K MP5, they share visual similarities.
  • The SMG is very good at close range and boasts a fire rate of 12 bullets per second. It looks like the Suppressed Submachine Gun, with a higher rate of fire, but shorter range. The SMG is like a less powerful Tactical SMG. The SMG can even be used in final battles and you can rush with it too. It can easily tear through any walls opponents make.
    • This may be the reason why the weapon was vaulted.
  • The Submachine Gun is often referred to by the community as the Heckler und Koch MP5, due to popularity in many FPS games like CoD (Call of Duty), while the upper-tier Epic and Legendary variants are referred to as the Fabrique Nationale FN P90, due to the submachine gun's signature design. Curiously enough, the P90 Submachine Gun actually shares its model with the Compact SMG, which ironically enough is also a P90 with exactly the same stats.
  • One thought of why the weapon was vaulted was because the fire rate of the weapon was higher than any SMG in the game (even the Compact SMG) and the 2nd highest ever (tied with the Minigun and beaten only by the Tactical SMG). Because of this, the Compact SMG (unless the player found a Common SMG, then the Compact SMG would be better) was much less useful as the DPS for Uncommon and Rare SMGs beat all Compact SMGs.
    • The fact that the white MP5 SMG is weaker than the Compact aside, the fact that it had a higher DPS than the Compact P90 SMG led to people favouring the MP5 more, as it absolutely shredded through builds. It can be said that the gamers' opinions on the MP5 was pretty much the same as when the Desert Eagle Hand Cannon got the damage buff to structures, allowing the Desert Eagle to one-shot freshly placed wood, brick and metal builds.
  • Before Season 11 the Submachine Gun looks slightly darker than in Seasons 5 and 7, but now isn't as dark anymore.
  • This is the first SMG to be available in all 5 main rarities (Not including Mythic). The second is the Suppressed Submachine Gun. The Tactical SMG and the Rapid Fire SMG.
    • This SMG was streamlined (which is using all rarities) like all other weapons that were still in the game.
  • The Common and Uncommon SMG's reload time used to be quicker than the Rare, Epic and Legendary variants. This was most likely a bug.
  • The Epic and Legendary variants of the SMG are capable of eliminating an opponent in one less bullet than the lower tier versions.
  • The Epic and Legendary rarities of the regular SMG use the icon of the Compact SMG, and the Compact SMG had the icon changed to a new one matching the icons for items on Chapter 2. This appears to be an error.
  • The most weak SMG being the Og Submachine Gun, @ the Machine Pistol is now stronger then all variants of the current submachine gun. Even the Rare variant of the Og Machine Pistol has a higher DPS then the current Legendary Submachine Gun. The thing that makes the Machine Pistol weaker its the longer reload time.
