Vaulted Patch 7.30, Patch 12.00

The Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle is a Sniper Rifle in Battle Royale. It is available in, Rare, Epic and Legendary variants ( Common, Uncommon have been vaulted). It uses Heavy Bullets. The Rare, Epic and Legendary variants were first introduced in v1.6 (the initial release of Battle Royale), while the Common and Uncommon were introduced in v11.00, as part of the simplification of the loot pool, which involved giving each weapon that was to be available in the mode variants in all five standard rarities.

The Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle's Legendary variant was first Vaulted - or, in this case, 'removed' - upon the release of v5.40, followed by the Rare and Epic variants being Vaulted with v7.30. This was done to allocate space in the loot pool for the near-identical Suppressed Sniper Rifle, which had been introduced with the third Content Update for v7.10. However, all three variants of the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle were Unvaulted with v9.40, replacing the Suppressed Sniper Rifle entirely. After months of absence from the mode, the Legendary variant was added to Creative in v10.30. Although a Common variant existed at the very beginning of Chapter 2, it was Vaulted hours after v11.00's release, though it remains available in Creative. The remaining rarities of the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle were Vaulted with the release of v12.00, and was substituted by a pair of Hideout-exclusive Sniper Rifles - the Heavy Sniper Rifle (found in A.L.T.E.R. / Shadow Hideouts) and the aforementioned Suppressed Sniper Rifle (found in E.G.O. / Ghost Hideouts).

Within the period that it was Vaulted, it was temporarily Unvaulted for 24 hours on July 7th, 2019, following the Tactical Submachine Gun. Chronologically, it was the 13th item to be Unvaulted for the 14 Days of Summer event. In addition, the Rare, Epic and Legendary Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle were Unvaulted in the Spy Games LTMs during Chapter 2, Season 2.

In Patch 13.00, the , Rare, Epic and Legendary variants of the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle has been unvaulted, replacing the Suppressed Sniper Rifle once again. The Common and Uncommon variants however stays in the vault.

The new Rags to Riches LTM has brought both the Common and Uncommon variants of the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle back.

The Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle has a headshot multiplier of 2.5x (which yields 237.5 / 250 / 262.5 / 275 / 290 damage, depending on the rarity).

It has a draw speed of 250 milliseconds - average, by most weapon standards.

It fires parabolic projectiles which travel at a speed of 250 metres (50 tiles) per second, with a fractional delay between the pulling of the trigger and the actual projection of the bullet. Prior to v1.6.3, they traveled at 200 metres (40 tiles) per second, and before v7.30, the bullet had 50% higher drag, leading to steeper drop on the projectile. It has since been adjusted, like the Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle, the Hunting Rifle, and the Suppressed Sniper Rifle to have bullet drop identical to that of the Heavy Sniper Rifle, which fired with less drag than the others upon its introduction.

The Epic and Legendary Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle auto-reloads when not equipped in the Spy Games LTMs.

Strategy[edit | edit source]

  • The Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle possesses one of the higher damage profiles in all of Battle Royale, and maintains its lethality out to extreme distances, thanks to its lack of damage falloff at range. However, this comes at a price - one has to carefully lead their shots when firing, as it is a projectile weapon.
  • The Uncommon variant and higher can prove devastating in the earlier phases of the game when players are often injured and still without Shields, as anything above the Common rarity can take down an unarmored target in just a single shot.
  • Precision will be key when used in later stages, as while it will still be capable of putting a major dent in your target's vitality, only a headshot will prove sufficient to kill them regardless of their health levels. Even the Common variant is capable of one-shot eliminations on headshot, but it is much less desirable for combat scenarios thanks to its lessened Shield-breaking potential.
  • Should you be at medium range, pairing your Bolt-Action with any sort of Assault Rifle can prove useful in scoring reliable picks on enemies, should your sniper shot not immediately kill them. The Burst Assault Rifle is especially potent in this role if one can lead the burst adequately, providing a very swift time to kill.
  • Timing your shots is important - there is a significant amount of downtime on most rarities of the weapon, making you vulnerable to attack. Keep yourself obscured when reloading, ideally a few steps behind a metal wall in order to prevent the enemy from knowing the interval at which you'll reload. A viable strategy is editing your wall into a variety of shapes while firing or dueling to lessen predictability.
  • Thanks to its abysmal hipfire accuracy and its cumbersome wielding while aimed at close targets, the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle should never be used in CQB outside of absolute necessity, such as when you lack a close-range weapon or when you're caught off-guard while sniping.
  • 'Double Bolting' (a technique similar to the 'Double Pump' exploit that existed periodically in Battle Royale) is possible, thanks to the lack of a timed delay, though it is much more difficult to accurately place shots by doing so, and made a hindrance by the long reload time (4.85 seconds at the earliest when factoring in the 250 ms draw speed) and its occupation of two inventory slots.
  • The Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle can be sidegraded to a Hunting Rifle, depending on the rarity. This sidegrade was only avaiable for Chapter 2 Season 3.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Common, Uncommon and Rare Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle, along with the old model for the higher two rarities, is based on the Arctic Warfare series of sniper rifles, produced by English company Accuracy International since the early 1980s. These rifles (formerly marketed as the PM) were originally designed as sporting precision guns, though it unexpectedly won a United Kingdom military sniper rifle contest to replace the L42, which were retooled Lee Enfield No. 4 rifles dating back to the 1940s, thanks largely in part to its modularity. Once manufacturing errors were ironed out, it was formally adopted into British service as the L96A1. A common moniker used to refer to the Bolt-Action is the AWP (Arctic Warfare Police), as this model appears in the popular, competitively-oriented Counter-Strike series of tactical first person shooters. The rifle depicted in Fortnite is closer to a full-size Arctic Warfare or Arctic Warfare Magnum as opposed to the shorter Arctic Warfare Police, and, given the new basis for the Epic and Legendary variants and their usage of Heavy Bullets, they are likely AWM rifles chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum.
  • The Legendary and Epic variants are near exact copies of the Brügger & Thomet APR338.
  • Unlike its real-life counterpart, the old Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle model fit only one bullet in its magazine, and was technically semi-automatic due to the mechanism's function (the bolt is only operated when the rifle is empty). Generally, real life Arctic Warfare rifles would have a 5- or 10-round magazine. This was remedied with the release of Chapter 2, as it was given a total remodel to incorporate a true bolt-action system, though its magazines still only hold a single round.
  • The Suppressed Sniper Rifle is a near carbon copy of the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle both aesthetically and statistically, even down to its model, minus the addition of the suppressor and arctic camouflage. Originally, it dealt 9% (now 14%) less damage than a Bolt-Action of the same rarity, but compensated with its reduced sound profile, making it somewhat superior. Since Chapter 2, Season 2's release, the Suppressed Sniper Rifle has seen a rework that greatly increases its reload speed (1.9s/1.8s as opposed to 2.5s/2.3s for a Bolt-Action of the same rarity), though its damage now only matches the Common and Uncommon variants of the Bolt-Action, making it something of a sidegrade, though it is not considered one officially.
  • The desert tan finish seen on the old model and that of the new Common, Uncommon and Rare variants is similar to the paintjob seen on the Epic, Legendary and Mythic Assault Rifle.
  • The Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle has an appearance identical to that of the Scoped Dragonfly that can be obtained in Save the World.
  • This is one of the three weapons to have a specific rarity Vaulted and then Unvaulted, in this case the Legendary Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle (Vaulted on v5.40 and Unvaulted on v9.40). The other weapon is the Common variant of the Suppressed Submachine Gun (Vaulted on v5.40 and then Unvaulted on v7.30) and the Common variant of the Infantry Rifle (Vaulted on v8.10 and then Unvaulted on v10.00 Content Update).
  • This is the twelfth item to be Unvaulted, following the Revolver.
  • It is the first, and currently only Sniper Rifle to date, to have a Common variant.
  • It was the first Sniper Rifle to be available in all five rarities, though since the Common variant was Vaulted 24 hours after its release, this feat was short-lived.
